We Will Never Forget

We will never forget Hussain… we will never forget Hussain

* * *

By the stars and how they are fixed… unlike the tears we cry
We’ll continue to lament him… long after we all die
Devoid of all worries
The ash of our bodies
Shall recite melodies
Of Hussain’s tragedies

* * *

Hussain’s day is not a day… his day makes the year sway
And if love can take away breath… his love takes souls away
The whole world we can forget
Yet our eyes shall remain wet
The whole world can end and yet
His sun shall never set

* * *

Drowning and we were saved by him… our ark of salvation
The Lord placed the tears of Hussain… within our creation
And so to him we’re drawn
His dome on our eyes drawn
The Lord created dawn
So that for him we mourn

* * *

We will not forget Hussain’s wounds… the seventeen-hundred
Nor shall Hussain’s seventy-two… be lost for a second
The six-month old infant
The scorched and burning tents
In the face of tyrants
For them all we lament

* * *

If our legs taken away… to your grave we would crawl
Your grave became a Ka’ba… that even the stars circle
The wounds from which you would ache
A house of God they would make
For God’s pleasure and your sake
We’d come crying “labbayk”

* * *

A promise to your mother… and to her rib broken
We’ll remember till the Earth… by this love is shaken
One day beside her last sun
Mehdi the awaited one
We shall mourn her martyred sun
That from our skies is gone
