Where is Our Uncle

Where are the hands that once comforted us… where is our uncle
Where is our guardian, our Abbas… as we all wail

* * *

Where is the care of our beloved one… that towered on us
Where is the gaze of our blessed sun… that left us in bliss
Of our bless-ed moon what has become… where is our Abbas

* * *

Where is the one who promised us water… and then disappeared
Where is the gate of this Karbala… who would once hold spears
Where is the King of Hussain’s daughters… to wipe all our tears?

* * *

Where is the eye that watched us firmly… whenever we went
Where is the patient son of Ali… as we all lament?
Where is our courage and bravery… as they burn our tents

* * *

Where is the flag that would once flutter… high above our heads
Where is the sword that would once shatter… the tyrants ahead
Where is the only love that matters… as to chains we’re led?

* * *

Where is the knight who would guard our night… as the day now comes?
When the sun brings again its daylight… what shall then become?
As we’re left here in horror and fright… no helper, no-one

* * *
