Karbala is more than simply a place—
Karbala is an ideal toward which we all strive
A real haven where you can hold your head high
A steal for the spiritually hungry with their heads to the sky
Where one kneels at the glory of Hussain’s might
The battle that he’d fight incites revolt inside the soul and outside on the battlefield
Still, even one thousand years on it inspires change; not the fake kind but the real deal
I kneel… Allahu Akbar I kneel…
God is great and Hussain is real…
It’s like I was seeking scripture and descended Jibraeel
It’s like I sought purpose and Allah would reveal
Saying Ikra – Ikra – read in the name of your lord
Ikra – Ikra – Hussain’s blood defeated the sword
Ikra – Karbala – Ashura – Hussain
Ikra – a stranger – a thirsty man in pain
The grandson of the Prophet standing up unashamed
Building a legacy with his blood – death lied saying he was slain
Karbala is what he left behind for the fallen
To rise up for the oppressed, unbroken, a glorious glow
Karbala is truth for the suppressed, swallowed whole
Karbala is the joy of all oppressed souls
Karbala is hope… Karbala is light
Karbala is victory… Karbala is might
Karbala is more than a shrine or a grave;
Where there is Karbala, know there is life
