Searching for hope, I found a flag that had once fallen
I couldn’t cope, seeing it lay there left me broken
It called my hand, blood-stained sand, it’s so sad.. torn up flag
I picked it up and found hope in its flutter again
It rose and the sun rose
Its flutter broke arrows
Where it flew the wind flew
How? Only Allah knows…
Labbayka Ya Hussain…

I know no death; every breath seeks relief from living
And yet this flag that I hold tells me: keep believing
“You’ll be suppressed, so suppressed, every breath like your last
But like Zainab you’ll see beauty in all of that pain
When the world makes you ache
When you feel your heart break
Turn toward Karbala
And cry out labbayk”
Labbayka Ya Hussain…
*
When my legs no longer carry and I can’t move on
When my eyes ache from crying and I can’t carry on
I just reach out for his flag and I beg my beloved
And with Hussain by my side I shall not walk alone
No, we’ll never give in
Through the thick and the thin
With our heads to the sky
We will keep believing
Labbayka Ya Hussain…
